Driver’s License Conversion
At Cross Border Relocations Japan, we provide our clients with the expertise and guidance necessary for them to obtain a Japanese driver’s license in a timely manner and without unnecessary hassle.
In order to drive in Japan, it is necessary to have a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) or Japanese driver’s license. IDPs are only valid for people residing for less than one year in Japan, thus almost all of our clients need to obtain Japanese licenses shortly after arriving in Japan. In some cases, it is possible to convert a valid foreign license (depending on the country of issue) by providing the necessary documentation (including an official translation of the foreign license), by completing the application forms, and by having an eye test. However, this process can be complicated and time-consuming and involve multiple trips to the licensing center without the right knowledge and guidance. In addition, many of our clients are required to take both a practical and written driving test in order to obtain a Japanese driving license. We assist our clients who need to take this notoriously difficult test by guiding them step by step through the process and offering specific test-relevant training to become familiar with the test course to increase the chances of our clients obtaining their Japanese licenses on their first attempt. In addition, we provide all of our clients with information on Japanese traffic regulations and laws so that they are able to drive safely and in compliance with these rules throughout their stay in Japan.
